The bat cave in Calakmul
Mexico | November 2018
The Calakmul Bat Cave (cueva de los murciélagos) is located in the state of Campeche, in the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico. It houses eight species of bat. Every day at sunset you can witness a breathtaking spectacle of nature. In fact, colonies of bats emerge from the cave for more than an hour. It is estimated there are 2 to 3 million specimens. The sky turns black. To attract the attention of this phenomenon there are not only tourists, in fact some hawks will take advantage of it for a good snack based on these flying mammals. This site of world importance is part of the Reserva de la Biosfera Calakmul.
